Concept: Plumbing and heating, Newark
A plumbing and heating site laid out like a small town broadsheet, with a centered nameplate, boxed ears, a ruled dateline and services set as front page stories that continue inside.
A design concept, not a client site. The name and every detail of the business it was drawn for have been replaced.
The design decisions
- Old Standard TT, a revival of a newspaper serif, carries the nameplate, the headline and the story titles, with Work Sans for the body copy and the tracked small caps labels.
- The palette is newsprint white and near black ink with one oxblood red for the drop cap, the nameplate subtitle and the rules that need weight.
- The header is a real masthead: boxed ears either side of the nameplate, a double rule, a dateline strip and a section nav, so the page reads as an edition rather than a website.
- The opening copy runs in ruled newspaper columns beside a boxed call panel, and each service is a story column ending in an italic jump line to its own page.
