Concept: HVAC, San Diego

A heating and air site on a near black ground, led by a hand drawn diagram of a split system that traces the air from the return to every room and back.

A design concept, not a client site. The name and every detail of the business it was drawn for have been replaced.

The design decisions

  • Bricolage Grotesque, condensed on its width axis, sets the big headlines, with Figtree for body copy and the service lines.
  • The palette is near black ink and a dark slate for the bands, a pale ice ground for the service list, an ember orange for the call buttons and a cool blue for the supply air in the diagram.
  • The hero diagram labels each part by what it is, from the filter and blower to the outdoor unit, and redraws itself as a straight vertical path on a phone so every label stays legible.
  • Services run as full width ruled rows with the name on the left, one plain line in the middle and an ember arrow on the right, and two tall photo slots sit offset on the dark band.
