Concept: Electrician, Carlsbad
The site behaves like a room at dusk: dark until something is lit, with a warm candle colored light that follows the cursor and the hero photo hung from a thin cord like a fixture.
A design concept, not a client site. The name and every detail of the business it was drawn for have been replaced.
The design decisions
- Prata, a high contrast and slightly theatrical serif, sets the headline, section heads, service names and the large phone number, with Mulish as the plain working face for body, labels and buttons.
- The palette is warm black for the unlit room, linen for the lit sections, and a candle gold reserved for the call button, phone, eyebrow and the moving light, used only on the dark ground for contrast.
- A single radial glow positioned from the pointer position follows the pointer across the page and brightens photos and slots with a soft light blend, and it rests in place on touch screens and under reduced motion.
- Sections switch the lights on and off, dark hero, linen services with a sticky heading beside ruled rows, shaded linen service area, dark contact with a huge phone and a form that opens a text message, and mobile pins a call bar.
