Concept: Drywall and painting, Southern California

A drywall finisher's site built around raking light: a dark room, one wall going from heavy texture to flat plaster, and type placed only where the surface is already smooth.

A design concept, not a client site. The name and every detail of the business it was drawn for have been replaced.

The design decisions

  • Instrument Serif runs large and quiet for headings and the service names, paired with Geist for body copy, labels and the button.
  • The palette is warm graphite and pale plaster, with a single level bubble green reserved for the call button and nothing else on the page.
  • A generated texture strip that flattens from knockdown to smooth plaster sits between sections as a divider, with a light beam that rakes across it on scroll and rests in place under reduced motion.
  • Services are one typographic list of large serif names with short descriptions on the same baseline and thin rules between them, and on phones the call button pins to the bottom of the screen.
