Concept: Commercial HVAC, San Diego

The layout borrows the look of a mechanical drawing sheet for facilities managers, and puts the client maintenance portal directly under the hero as the main reason to call.

A design concept, not a client site. The name and every detail of the business it was drawn for have been replaced.

The design decisions

  • Source Serif 4 sets heavy, tight headings that read structural, while Archivo carries body text, labels and buttons in wide tracked small capitals.
  • The palette is a deep navy, a steel blue and a signal red on paper white with two cool grays, and a three color rule in steel, red and white separates the hero from the portal band.
  • Section headings sit on a thin red left spine with a tracked eyebrow word, and content lives in flat bordered panels and ruled lists with no shadows, like an equipment schedule.
  • The hero pairs the headline with a framed photo and caption tab, then a full bleed dark navy portal band lays out its three features in a bordered row with a red call to action; on phones the navigation collapses into a menu disclosure under the header.
