Concept: Coffee shop, Santee
Two shops presented as one lamp lit living room, with each location drawn as a leather colored door that swings open onto its details.
A design concept, not a client site. The name and every detail of the business it was drawn for have been replaced.
The design decisions
- Literata, a bookish serif, carries headlines, item names and body copy, and Schibsted Grotesk sets labels, hours, nav and buttons like a printed house notice.
- An espresso brown page ground, cognac for the door leaves and surfaces, lamp gold for links, the active switch and hairlines, and cream for text and the paper band.
- The signature is two paneled doors in frames with a brass knob that swing open in 3D on hover or focus to reveal address, hours and phone; on touch screens they start ajar and reduced motion shows them open without the swing.
- A two tab switch under the headline swaps each location's hours and call button in place, the hero hangs one photo as a framed print over a blurred full bleed copy of itself, and phones get a pinned gold call bar.
