Concept: Coffee shop, San Diego
A neighborhood coffee shop site that opens at dusk on a navy hero where a drawn wall sconce switches on, then steps down into daylight sections for the menu, bakery and visit details.
A design concept, not a client site. The name and every detail of the business it was drawn for have been replaced.
The design decisions
- DM Serif Text gives the headings a warm, bookish voice while Mulish keeps the body, menu rows and labels open and friendly at small sizes.
- Every yellow on the page is porch light, used for the glow, the primary button and the full width step band under the hero, and every navy is the evening around it, with a darker blue reserved for link ink on white.
- The signature is a drawn wall sconce above the headline that flickers twice and settles lit as the page loads, simply on when reduced motion is set.
- Sections change width and alignment as you go, from a three column dotted leader menu on warm paper to an offset photo pair and a navy band with staggered cards, and phones get a fixed yellow call bar.
