Concept: Coffee shop, San Diego
A coffee house site that behaves like a lamp lit room late at night, reading the visitor's clock and switching between a bone day tone and a midnight night tone.
A design concept, not a client site. The name and every detail of the business it was drawn for have been replaced.
The design decisions
- Libre Bodoni carries the voice, with italics for neighborhood names like a marquee, while IBM Plex Mono sets the hours, addresses and open now lines like a departures board.
- The palette is midnight navy, a lamp amber and a warm bone paper, and the page sets night tones between 7 PM and 6 AM before first paint so there is no flash.
- The hero pairs a left aligned headline with a live board listing each location and an amber lamp dot that lights when that shop is open now against local time.
- Layout is deliberately asymmetric: the locations list offsets its middle entry, the menu tease puts the photo left, and on phones a fixed bottom bar gives one call button per location.
