Concept: Coffee shop and bakery, San Diego
A coffee house whose house baked pastries are the draw, so the page opens on the pastry case itself and arranges everything else around it.
A design concept, not a client site. The name and every detail of the business it was drawn for have been replaced.
The design decisions
- Gloock serif sets the headline, section titles and drink names, paired with Mulish for descriptions, hours and the form, with tabular figures reserved for the menu columns.
- A white ground with warm near black ink, a matcha green used as a section rule and the visit divider, and a single bright orange accent kept for the wordmark and non text marks.
- The signature is a full bleed sideways scrolling shelf of pastry tiles under the header, with scroll snap, keyboard focus and previous and next buttons, finished by a thin glass edge line with a short orange glint like the front of a display case.
- Every shelf tile shares one height and takes its width from its photo, so nothing is cover cropped; the large headline then sits bottom left with hours and a call button to its right.
