Concept: Coffee shop, Oceanside

The page plays out a morning at base camp: dark before sunrise at the top, canvas and pine through the day, and night again at the bottom where the visit details sit like the last sign at a trailhead.

A design concept, not a client site. The name and every detail of the business it was drawn for have been replaced.

The design decisions

  • Display type is Big Shoulders Display, tall, condensed and uppercase like routed park signage, set against Libre Baskerville as the field journal voice for body copy.
  • The palette runs a near black night, a canvas cream, a pine green and a flame orange, with the orange kept to the opening line, sign bolts and focus rings and never used for text on canvas.
  • Navigation is built as trail signs: pine boards with an arrow cut on one end, letters inset as if routed into the wood, bolted to an orange post, hanging alternately left and right in the hero and repeated as a compact sticky row and as every section heading.
  • The hero stacks the two word name huge in the left column with the photo frame offset lower on the right, and sections change width and padding from a dense three column menu board to a pine patio band, a merch split and a night visit block with a pinned call bar on phones.
