Concept: Coffee roaster and cafe, San Diego
A roaster cafe site built like a converted factory room, with poured concrete grounds, rust colored fields, ink signage and a gallery wall where framed pieces hang from a steel picture rail.
A design concept, not a client site. The name and every detail of the business it was drawn for have been replaced.
The design decisions
- Bungee, a face drawn from vertical urban signage, sets every heading and drink name like stenciled factory lettering, paired with Work Sans for reading copy and placards.
- The palette is concrete grey for the page, rust for whole fields such as the full bleed room band and the second line of the headline, ink black for frames, header and the visit block, and a single hot pink accent for headings on ink.
- Hours and address sit on a tilted factory time card with punch holes down its edge and a hard shadow, beside a tall photo at native ratio.
- The gallery wall sets each piece on a wire from a steel rail over a concrete wall with form tie holes, at staggered drops with a paper mat and placard, and on phones the rail drops away so pieces hang from their own nails, alternating sides.
