Concept: Cafe and deli, Chula Vista
A neighborhood cafe and deli read as its own counter: a green deli board, a sign with the hours, a ticket you pull, and the menu written up as order tickets clipped to a rail.
A design concept, not a client site. The name and every detail of the business it was drawn for have been replaced.
The design decisions
- Condensed upright Oswald carries the headlines, ticket stations and labels like deli board lettering, set against Crimson Text, a warm book serif with italics for addresses and notes.
- A banana cream page ground with deep deli green for the hero board, headings, buttons and footer, ink for the rail and rules, and a pale paper tint for tickets and the note card.
- The signature menu is a row of paper tickets in different widths hung from a thick ink rail, each slightly tilted with a clip, a station name, tick boxes, a dashed tear line and a scalloped torn edge.
- The hero puts a tall framed photo slot left of a huge headline with a rounded counter sign for the hours, and a tilted take a ticket pull tab hangs off the board's bottom edge and jumps to the menu.
